When you notice a damp patch spreading across the ceiling or water dripping during a downpour, it’s natural to panic. The first thought for many homeowners is to Google how to repair roof leaks or to grab a ladder and give DIY roof leak repair a go.
But here’s the thing: while small home maintenance jobs are perfect for DIY, repairing a roof leak is one of those tasks where the risks often outweigh the rewards. Roofs are complex systems, and what looks like a small issue on the surface can often be hiding a much bigger problem underneath.
At Roof Works, we’ve seen it all, from quick DIY patch jobs that failed within weeks to leaks that were ignored until they caused thousands of dollars in damage. That’s why we’ve put together this simple guide: so you understand what you’re dealing with, what you can do in the short-term, and why calling the experts is the safest and most cost-effective choice.

If you’ve discovered a roof leak, here are a few safe steps you can take before the experts arrive:
It might sound backwards, but calling in experts like Roof Works often costs less than trying to do it yourself. Here’s why:
✔ We find the real source of the leak, not just the visible signs.
✔ We use quality materials built for NZ conditions.
✔ We guarantee our work, meaning peace of mind for years to come.
✔ We prevent future issues by spotting problems you may not even know exist.
Think of it like going to the doctor. You can cover up the symptoms, but if you don’t treat the root cause, the problem only gets worse.
